Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Heavy showers of up to around 100 mm, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in several parts of the country during the next 36 hours, the Meteorological Department warned today (24).

According to the weather forecast issued at 4.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces.

Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at some locations in these areas.

Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, North-Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
