Sri Lanka, Oct. 14 -- Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today lauded the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) for blocking the 6.8 per cent power tariff hike proposed by the government.

"We salute the PUCSL for this move, but we urge the Commission to reduce the power tariffs by 33 per cent as the people have given a mandate for such a move in three consecutive elections. People gave a mandate for a power tariff reduction in the Presidential, general and local government elections for a power tariff reduction," he said.
