Sri Lanka, Aug. 17 -- Amidst the controversy over the extension of retirement age of judges, the government yesterday said the 22nd Constitutional Amendment Bill, which seeks to extend the retirement age of judges will be enacted into law by Parliament by end of September or early October.

Health Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa told reporters that the Bill will be presented to Parliament on August 18. Following its presentation, members of the public will have the opportunity to challenge the proposed legislation by filing petitions before the Supreme Court.

Dr. Jayatissa said the Supreme Court will consider any petitions and subsequently communicate its determination to Parliament.
