Sri Lanka, March 9 -- Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said Sri Lanka is maintaining a neutral and non-aligned policy in line with international conventions amid rising tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel, while assuring that national security remains a top priority.
Speaking yesterday, the Minister said the recent rescue operation involving an Iranian vessel by the Sri Lanka Navy was conducted purely on humanitarian grounds.
He said the government of Sri Lanka has granted a one-month relief or "free visa" to the rescued Iranian personnel to allow them to remain in the country safely until arrangements are made for their return.
