Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday the government is not facing any threat and that the public rallies being held across the country are aimed at building a strong people's movement to support the country's development.

Speaking at a public rally in Kahatagasdigiliya, the President said the responsibility for developing the country lies not only with the government but also with the people.

"The government must take action to develop the country, while the people too have a major responsibility in this effort. We need to build a strong public movement for this purpose, and that is what we are doing now. There is no threat to the government," he said.
