Sri Lanka, March 17 -- The fuel quota currently available to the public will expire on Saturday night and will be renewed on Sunday, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, D. J. Rajakaruna said.

"People assume that once they complete their fuel quota, it will reopen the next day. That is incorrect. The weekly quota ends on Saturday night," Rajakaruna said.

He said that the recently introduced QR code system is expected to reduce the country's fuel consumption by around 20%.

Rajakaruna explained that the QR code system was implemented abruptly to eliminate long queues at filling stations and assured the public that fuel supplies will remain sufficient for the coming month.
