Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- Former Deputy Director of Prison Health Services, Dr. Hemanta Ranasinghe was today ordered to be remanded till August 19 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake.

He was arrested and produced before court in connection with an incident in 2024, where he had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 1.5 million and accepted Rs. 300,000 as part payment for continuing to keep an inmate who had been admitted to the Welikada Prison Hospital due to illness as a resident patient for further treatment after the inmate had initially received inpatient care at the hospital.
