Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Former Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa was today ordered to be further remanded till September 19 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
President's Counsel Anuja Premarathna, appearing for the suspect moved for bail.
Considering the submissions made in support of the application, the Magistrate stated that an appropriate bail order will be delivered within a week.
The arrest was made in connection with allegations that he had used his official position to unlawfully secure compensation for an unauthorised property that was damaged during the 2022 public uprising. The compensation claim, which had initially been rejected, concerned property not legally entitled to such payment.
