Colombo, Oct. 26 -- The Ella Odyssey train, which departed Colombo Fort Railway Station at 5.30 a.m. for Badulla, derailed this afternoon (26) at Watagoda Railway Station, the Railways Department said.

Officials said that the incident occurred at around 1.30 p.m. on the station's second track. They confirmed that there has been no disruption to other train movements along the Upcountry Railway Line.

Passengers onboard the Ella Odyssey were safely transferred to another train to continue their journey to Badulla.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the derailment, officials added.
