Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the preparation of a Bill to establish an Education Council to standardize, register, license, assure quality and accredit professionals in the general education sector.

The proposed council will cover professional categories including teachers, teacher advisors, principals, teacher educators and educational administrators.

A committee chaired by Senior Professor O. G. Dayaratne was appointed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education to study the matter and make recommendations.
