Sri Lanka, Aug. 10 -- Wildlife officials have arrested a person for flying a drone in a manner that obstructed wild elephants travelling along the Galgamuwa-Kasikote main road in the North Western Wildlife Zone.

The suspect was arrested for operating the drone near the Kasikote elephant tunnel, where wild elephants frequently cross the road.

The suspect and the drone were produced before the Mahawa Magistrate's Court, where he admitted his mistake. The case was postponed for a later date.

Wildlife officials said large crowds often gather near the Kasikote elephant tunnel to watch elephants crossing the road and warned that such behaviour could put people at risk, as startled elephants may chase members of the public.
