Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- A young student from Bandarawela has turned to the Supreme Court, alleging that his constitutional rights had been violated after the University Grants Commission (UGC) denied him admission to pursue a degree in technology on the basis of his disability.

The petition was filed by Manujaya Attanayake, a resident of Bandarawela. When the case was taken up before a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Shiran Gooneratne, the matter was fixed for support on February 24 next year.
