Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa left the country earlier today despite being summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

A member of the Rajapaksa family said Shiranthi Rajapaksa had travelled directly to the airport from a private hospital and had not previously received any summons from the FCID requesting her to appear and provide a statement.

According to the family member, the relevant letter was handed over to Shiranthi Rajapaksa by an airport official near the departure gate, shortly before her scheduled flight was due to leave at 12.50 a.m. today (16).
