Dengue deaths near 50 as cases top 71,000
Sri Lanka, July 15 -- Sri Lanka's dengue death toll has climbed to nearly 50, while the total number of reported infections has surpassed 71,000 so far this year, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The NDCU said 71,235 dengue cases and 49 dengue-related deaths had been reported as of July 14.
The country recorded 1,284 new dengue infections yesterday alone, while a total of 15,856 dengue cases have been reported during the first 14 days of July alone
The Western Province remains the worst-affected region, accounting for 37,490 cases. Gampaha District has reported the highest number of infections with 14,736 cases, followed closely by Colombo District with 14,229 cases.
