Dengue, Chikungunya cases surge after rains
Sri Lanka, June 1 -- People experiencing a fever for more than two days should seek immediate medical attention and undergo appropriate blood tests, as Sri Lanka is witnessing a rise in both dengue and chikungunya infections following recent monsoon rains, Consultant Dr. Maheshaka Wijayawardena said.
Dr. Wijayawardena warned that dengue cases have already reached tens of thousands this year, with the Western Province, particularly Colombo and Gampaha, reporting the highest number of infections. Chikungunya cases are also increasing after several years of relatively low transmission.
