Sri Lanka, July 6 -- A growing public debate has emerged over the recent surge in dengue cases in Sri Lanka, amid conflicting views on whether a new viral strain is responsible for the outbreak.

Several politicians, including the Prime Minister, have suggested that the current spike in infections may be linked to a new dengue virus strain. However, epidemiologists and officials from the Health Ministry have maintained that no evidence has been found to support the presence of a new strain circulating in the country.
