Sri Lanka, March 27 -- Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have seized a large consignment of foreign-made cigarettes valued at around Rs. 30 million, officials said.

The consignment, which had been brought into the country from Dubai, was discovered on the afternoon of March 27 in 13 pieces of unclaimed luggage left in the baggage lanes at the airport.

Upon inspection, officers found 1,000 cigarette cartons containing approximately 200,000 cigarettes of the "Platinum" and "Manchester" brands.

All seized items were taken into custody by customs officers, and arrangements have been made to transfer the consignment to the main customs warehouse complex in Colombo for further investigation.
