CSE extends decline as selling pressure broadens
Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Colombo Stock Exchange closed lower for a second consecutive session on 9 September 2026, with both benchmark indices retreating amid broad-based selling pressure.
The ASPI fell 76.23 points, or 0.35%, to 21,466.00, while the S&P SL20 declined 20.66 points, or 0.34%, to 6,033.87. The ASPI slipped below the 21,500 level during the session as recovery attempts failed to hold.
Market turnover remained subdued at LKR 972.23 million, with 43.11 million shares traded. The Capital Goods sector led activity with LKR 283.19 million in turnover, while Access Engineering recorded the highest individual counter turnover at LKR 128.26 million.
