Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- A cross-talk arose in Parliament today between Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake and Committee on Public Finance (COPF) Chairman Harsha de Silva over the proposal to increase the monthly salary of the Auditor General.

The argument erupted when Dr De Silva said the committee would take up the proposal today and that the House could take it up within the course of this week.

Minister Ratnayake, who responded, said the committee should give the green light today so that the House could improve it.

Dr De Silva said there is an issue as it is not clear whether an Auditor General could be considered as a government officer. Also, he said laws cannot be changed just to please one person.
