Coral reef survey conducted in Kayankerni
Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) has completed a comprehensive coral reef survey within the Kayankerni Marine Sanctuary and the adjacent Pasikuda coastal area to evaluate the current status of coral reef ecosystems and strengthen future conservation and management initiatives.
The survey, carried out by the DWC's Marine Unit, assessed the health of coral reefs inside the protected sanctuary as well as in nearby unprotected waters. It also identified natural and human-induced threats affecting the reefs while collecting scientific data to support their long-term conservation.
