Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution Bill, which is at the centre of controversy, will be presented to Parliament today, opening the door to legal battles.

If enacted, it provides for the extension of the retirement age for Supreme Court judges to 67 and for Appeal Court judges to 65.

The date of retirement of the Chief Justice is also extended by the legislation. "The date of retirement of Chief Justice shall be either the date on which he or she reaches the age of sixty-seven years or the date on which a period of six years is completed from the date of appointment as the Chief Justice, whichever occurs earlier," as per the Bill
