Control restored at Kuruvita and Pallansena prisons
Sri Lanka, Aug. 7 -- The situation at both the Kuruvita and Pallansena prisons has now been brought under control following unrest reported at the two facilities, the Prison Department said.
A disturbance broke out at the Kuruvita Prison earlier today (07), before a similar situation later emerged at the Pallansena Open-Air Correctional Centre in Negombo.
Thirteen inmates from the Kuruvita Prison were hospitalised following the unrest, while two inmates died, according to reports.
Meanwhile, a tense situation also developed at the Pallansena facility, where police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control.
