Srilanka, Oct. 19 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has collected more than Rs. 27.8 million in fines over a six-month period by taking legal action against vendors who sold bottled drinking water at prices above the approved rates.
According to the Authority, these operations were conducted between April 1 and September 30, with a total of 306 cases reported during this period. The majority of raids took place in the Colombo district, which accounted for 55 cases. Other districts where violations were reported include Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.
In a recent high-profile case, a Colombo-based establishment was fined Rs. 600,000 for selling a single bottle of water at a price Rs. 20 above the approved rate.
