Sri Lanka, Aug. 6 -- Colombo recorded the highest number of goats and sheep slaughtered at licensed slaughterhouses in Sri Lanka during the provisional 2025 period, while Batticaloa reported the highest number of cattle slaughtered, according to the latest statistics released by the Department of Census and Statistics.

The data showed that 28,388 goats and sheep were slaughtered in Colombo, followed by Batticaloa with 7,195, Kandy with 3,971 and Jaffna with 3,299 in 2025.

Meanwhile, Batticaloa recorded 30,190 cattle slaughtered during the year, the highest among all districts. It was followed by Ampara (27,078), Anuradhapura (15,707), Kurunegala (13,646) and Trincomalee (13,307).
