Colombo playground turned garage, 15-year project under spotlight
Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar has pledged to reclaim a children's playground that was allegedly unlawfully occupied and converted into a garage, while also promising action on several other longstanding public infrastructure issues identified during an inspection tour of the D4 Administrative District.
During the visit, the Mayor inspected a children's playground that was found to have been illegally occupied and used as a garage.
Stressing that public spaces belong to the community and not to individuals seeking private gain, the Mayor said the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) would continue to take firm action against the misuse of public property and reclaim such spaces for public use.
