Sri Lanka, Aug. 25 -- The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has received a complaint regarding a social media message calling for the assassination of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The complaint was filed today by former Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha member Prabath Dharshana and several others, who alleged that a post is being circulated online urging Wickremesinghe's killing while he remains under treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

Wickremesinghe, who has been remanded until August 26 over the alleged misuse of state funds for a personal overseas trip, is currently receiving treatment under close medical supervision.
