Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- Members of the Constitutional Council (CC) cannot be summoned before the Privilege Commitee as it is a body independent of Parliament, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne told the House today.

Referring to a privilege issue raised by MP Dayasiri Jayasekera the other day, he said Standing Orders do not apply to the CC.

MP Jayasekera earlier accused the CC of going out of the way to approve the appointment of the Committee to Investigate Allegations on Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) including its Director General Ranga Dissanayake.
