Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- National Freedom Front (NFF) leader and former Member of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa claimed that the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, may have skipped the Easter service this year after being "informed by God" not to attend a move he described as unprecedented in history.

Speaking during a television programme last night, Weerawansa suggested that the Cardinal's absence was unusual and may have had spiritual or divine significance. He further said that while intelligence services are capable of providing prior warnings, they cannot guarantee the security of key religious locations such as St. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade.
