Sri Lanka, Oct. 8 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the construction of a new airfield facility complex at the Colombo International Airport in Rathmalana.

The approval follows the Cabinet meeting held on September 17, 2019, which authorized the commencement of the procurement process for the project. Nine bids were received under the National Competitive Procurement Procedure.

Following recommendations from the Procurement Evaluation Committee and the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee, the contract has been awarded to Sanken Construction (Private) Limited, the lowest responsive bidder, at a cost of Rs. 3,046.29 million (excluding Value Added Tax).
