Cabinet approves coconut land rehabilitation programme
Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- The Cabinet has approved a special coconut land rehabilitation programme aimed at increasing coconut production and promoting sustainable cultivation practices amid concerns over a possible El Nino condition in the coming months.
The programme is intended to encourage small-scale coconut growers to improve the productivity of their lands and ensure an adequate supply of coconuts to meet domestic demand.
The programme is expected to cover around 85,000 acres of coconut land in 2026 and will be implemented over three consecutive years.
Under the programme, incentives will be provided to small-scale coconut growers owning five acres or less, with payments covering up to 65% of the expenditure incurred on approved act...
