Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- A new regulation will soon be introduced for buses and vans used for long-distance passenger transport, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake said.
Speaking to the media, Minister Rathnayake said the regulation is based on six key factors and will make it mandatory for vehicles travelling over 100 km or on cross-border journeys to obtain a vehicle inspection certificate before departure.
"These are not large-scale checks, but inspections of essential items such as tyres, mirrors, and brakes. All buses and vans crossing provinces must complete this inspection 48 hours prior to the journey and obtain the necessary certificate. This is what has been recommended under the new law," he said.
