Colombo, Sept. 28 -- A 14-year-old boy died after being struck by an express train travelling from Badulla to Colombo Fort at the Tismalpola railway station in the Rambukkana police division.

The victim, a resident of the Medagama area, had visited the station with several friends on a train bound for Colombo Fort from Rambukkana. Upon disembarking, he had stepped on to the railway track instead of the platform.

At that moment, the express train from Badulla to Colombo Fort arrived, fatally hitting him. Initial investigations confirmed that the accident occurred as the child attempted to cross the track.

Rambukkana Police are conducting further investigations.
