Sri Lanka, July 29 -- Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Rajeev Amarasuriya today said the BASL had not been consulted before the Government proceeded with the proposed constitutional amendment seeking to extend the retirement age of judges.

Addressing the BASL's Special General Meeting of the General Membership, Amarasuriya said the proposed amendment had been presented to the Cabinet and approved a few days ago without any prior consultation with the Bar Association.

He made the remarks while addressing a large gathering of members at the BASL headquarters in Hulftsdorp, where the proposed constitutional amendment on the retirement age of judges was being discussed.
