Sri Lanka, July 29 -- The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will convene a Special General Meeting in Colombo today (29) to discuss the government's proposed move to increase the retirement age of judges.

BASL President, Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya, said the meeting, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the BASL premises, will focus on determining the association's response to the proposal.

Amarasuriya said that the matter is not related to any individual judge but concerns the independence of the judiciary, constitutional principles, and public confidence in the justice system.
