Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- Retired Senior Professor and Anunayake Maha Thera Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Thera has requested the Prisons authorities to allow Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to remain in his robes and to appear in them whenever he is brought outside his place of detention.

In a letter addressed to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Thera said the authority to change or remove the robes of an ordained monk rested with the monk concerned and the Maha Sangha to which he belonged.

Ven. Kotapitiye Rahula Thera, an Anunayake Maha Thera of the Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagridharma Maha Sangha Sabha, said Gnanasara Thera belonged to the same Sangha Sabha of the Maha Vihara lineage.
