Sri Lanka, Oct. 17 -- Steps will be taken in the upcoming budget to increase the allowance paid to teachers in rural schools, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

Addressing the 28th convention of the Ceylon Teachers' Union, he said the decision was taken to address the issues and hardships faced by teachers who serve in rural schools.

The President said the matter will be discussed with trade unions of the teaching services.
