Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- Despite the Government's sudden move to enact the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which provides for an increase in the retirement age of superior court judges, the introduction of a new Constitution, a key election promise of the ruling National People's Power (NPP), will come under formal discussion within the party next year, an official said.

The NPP, in its election manifesto, 'A Thriving Nation, A Beautiful Life, promised to repeal the current Constitution and replace it with a new Constitution, scrapping the executive presidential system.
