Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- Smartphones accounted for 80.6% of device usage in Sri Lanka in 2025, highlighting the dominance of mobile technology over traditional computers, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.

The Computer Literacy Statistics 2025 Annual Bulletin showed that desktop and laptop computers accounted for 17.4% of device usage.

Tablet computers accounted for 1.1%, while other mobile phones accounted for 0.9%.

The DCS said the higher digital literacy rate compared to computer literacy reflects a shift from personal computers towards smartphones and tablets.

Sri Lanka's digital literacy rate stood at 72% in 2025, compared to a computer literacy rate of 39.2%.
