Sri Lanka, Oct. 6 -- It has been reported that 32 pigeons have been stolen from the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens.
Deputy Director of the Zoo, Hemantha Samarasekara, said the pigeons had been handed over to the Dehiwala Zoo for safekeeping pending a court order in connection with a case. He said security officers had discovered the cages empty and reported the matter to the authorities.
Mr. Samarasekara said that, in addition to a police investigation, a departmental inquiry has also been initiated into the incident.
He said that the caretaker responsible for the pigeons has been interdicted on the instructions of the Director General.
