Sri Lanka, July 31 -- Twenty-six retired police dogs attached to the Asgiriya Police Kennel Division will be auctioned to the public on August 1, police said.

The dogs, which have served the Police Department in detecting explosives and narcotics as well as assisting criminal investigations, will be available for public inspection prior to the auction.

The inspection will be held from 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. on the same day at the grounds of the Asgiriya Police Kennel Division, where prospective buyers will be allowed to examine the dogs before placing their bids.

The Police Kennel Division said the auction will commence following the inspection period.
