Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- Nineteen paddy warehouses have been opened in the Polonnaruwa district, and 4,500 metric tons of paddy have already been purchased by farmers, Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda told the Daily Mirror.

He said the largest stock of paddy this season has been purchased from the Ampara district, while renovation work has commenced on about 80 other warehouses across the country.

Pinnalanda further said that the paddy harvest has been completed in several areas and purchasing operations are currently underway. Farmers have been given the facility to sell their paddy to the regional offices of the PMB in line with government standards, and payments are made immediately upon purchase, he added.
