Sri Lanka, April 17 -- Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara said that nearly 150 kilograms of heroin were recovered from a multi-day fishing vessel brought to the Dikowita Fisheries Harbour.

He said that the estimated street value of the seized narcotics is around Rs. 4 billion.

According to the Navy, the haul consisted of 150 packets of heroin packed in six bags found on board the vessel.

The multi-day fishing vessel, along with four suspects, was intercepted during a special naval operation conducted in the deep sea south of Sri Lanka and brought to the Dikowita Harbour this morning.

Authorities said the vessel was detained as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking routes using fishing boats.
