Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- While the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Middle East conflict has disrupted global shipping and trade, Sri Lanka appears to be emerging as an alternative transit point for high-value cargo, with a recent shipment of 14 Lamborghini vehicles routed through the country.

The 14 luxury vehicles, manufactured in Italy, were transported by sea to Hambantota Port. From there, they were loaded into seven 40-foot containers and transported to Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, where they are scheduled to be transferred to a large cargo aircraft for onward transportation to Dubai and Doha, Qatar.
