Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- National Organizer and MP of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Namal Rajapaksa yesterday called on the Government to "leave aside narrow-mindedness and hatred" and heed the advice of trade unions and medical professionals, while raising alarms over national security and economic challenges.

Speaking in Parliament, he warned that the underworld had "raised its head" with a rise in killings, urging the Government to implement effective measures to ensure public safety.

He criticised current tax policies, alleging that while the Government had come to power pledging to strengthen farmers and the rural economy, it was instead reducing taxes on imported food, vegetables, and fruits, undermining local producers.
