Mumbai, July 6 -- Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced plans to develop three new airfields at Warangal, Adilabad and Kothagudem and invited global aerospace companies to expand manufacturing in Telangana. Delivering the inaugural address at Aeromart Hyderabad 2026, he said the State had emerged as an aerospace manufacturing destination and that the facilities formed part of a strategic push to broaden the industrial base. The government said the projects would strengthen regional aviation infrastructure and create pathways for manufacturing and skilled services.
The foundation stone for the proposed Warangal airfield, about 120 km from Hyderabad, is expected to be laid next month, the minister said. The facility is intended to support regional connectivity and ease pressure on metropolitan airports. Officials said lower landing and handling costs at such stations can make them attractive to airlines and logistics providers.
Adilabad will be developed as a combined civil and military aviation station to accommodate commercial services alongside defence needs. The government said discussions with the central government were under way on Kothagudem and indicated a final nod was likely. Together the sites are expected to provide opportunities for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operations and related aerospace industries.
Drawing on his background as a former Indian Air Force pilot, the minister highlighted potential cost efficiencies and workforce development from local MRO and manufacturing clusters. The government plans to leverage available land, infrastructure and policy support to attract investment and offer partners operational advantages. Officials said the initiatives would help develop supply chains and training programmes for technicians and engineers.
State authorities said further announcements will set out project timelines, regulatory clearances and investor facilitation measures, with follow-up consultations planned with central agencies and industry stakeholders. The minister reiterated an open invitation to global firms to consider Telangana for expansion as part of efforts to diversify transport infrastructure and drive regional growth.
