
Mumbai, Aug. 3 -- Trimble has highlighted the use of its Tekla Structures software by Afcons Infrastructure in the construction of the Greater Male Connectivity Project in the Maldives, one of the region's largest marine infrastructure developments.
The 6.74-km bridge and causeway network connects Male, Villingili, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi and is India's largest infrastructure project in the Maldives. The project includes what the companies describe as the world's tallest precast navigation span segment, measuring 8.23 m in depth, 25.73 m in width and weighing about 216 metric tonnes.
According to Trimble, Tekla Structures was used to create detailed 3D models for design coordination, fabrication and construction planning. The software enabled engineers to determine the centre of gravity of structural components, improving lifting accuracy and safety during the installation of heavy precast segments. It also supported clash detection, automated detailing, quantity extraction and drawing generation.
Harsh Pareek, Vice President - Direct Sales, AECO, Trimble, said connected digital workflows are enabling engineering teams to execute increasingly complex infrastructure projects with greater precision.
Yallappa Sonavane, Assistant Manager - Design (Draughtsman), Afcons Infrastructure, said the software improved the safety, accuracy and efficiency of lifting operations by providing precise centre-of-gravity data for structural elements.
Trimble said the project demonstrates the growing adoption of digital construction technologies in delivering complex marine infrastructure projects.
