Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to fast-track the sanction and execution of the proposed Rangpo-Ranipool railway line. He said the project was important to Sikkim's future connectivity and development, and sought faster movement on the proposal.
Subba raised the matter during a meeting with Vaishnaw at Rail Bhawan on October 1. The meeting covered several railway projects planned for Sikkim, including the proposed Rangpo-Ranipool line and other infrastructure intended to improve connections within the state and with the wider rail network.
The MP also requested the early completion of the ongoing survey for the proposed Melli-Dentam railway line. He asked the Railway Ministry to expedite the processes that would follow the survey, indicating that progress on planning and approvals remained important for advancing the project.
Subba highlighted Sikkim's strategic location along India's international borders while discussing the broader value of improved rail infrastructure. He said better connectivity would support more than passenger movement by helping goods reach markets, improving access for businesses and strengthening sectors such as tourism and trade.
He further linked the proposed railway projects with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the state. According to Subba, rail infrastructure could become a major driver of Sikkim's future growth by opening new avenues for economic activity and supporting the state's long-term development and efforts to build a self-reliant economy.
