Mumbai, July 16 -- Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) to provide financing and support for renewable energy projects in Tripura. The agreement commits Rs 50 bn to the partnership and is intended to accelerate the development of clean energy infrastructure across the state. REC will work with TREDA to identify viable projects and to structure funding solutions tailored to local needs. The collaboration is framed as part of ongoing efforts to expand sustainable energy access in the region.

Under the terms of the MoU, TREDA will act as the nodal agency for project facilitation while REC will offer financial assistance and advisory services to project promoters and public agencies. The agencies will prioritise grid-connected and off-grid initiatives that improve energy availability for communities and industry. Joint activities will include project appraisal, financing structuring and support for implementation processes. The partnership will also include mechanisms for monitoring and periodic review of project performance.

Officials said the arrangement will mobilise investment into the state and accelerate the pace of renewable deployment without specifying individual project pipelines. The funding envelope is designed to catalyse both public and private participation in renewable energy development and to reduce barriers to project realisation. The collaboration will support capacity building within local institutions and enhance technical preparedness for larger projects. It will also seek to align project selection with regional development priorities.

The MoU between REC and TREDA aligns with broader national objectives for clean energy transition and with Tripura's strategy for sustainable infrastructure growth. Implementation schedules and operational details will be worked out jointly by the two agencies to ensure timely disbursements and effective utilisation of funds. The partnership is presented as a long term commitment to support the state's energy transformation and to foster a conducive environment for further renewable investments.
