Mumbai, Oct. 28 -- Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather on Friday inaugurated development projects worth around Rs. 90 mn in Dreygam and Palpora in Budgam district. The works include a bridge over the Shali Ganga Nallah in Dreygam and a road project at Palpora, both intended to improve connectivity and transport access for local residents.
The bridge is expected to provide relief to residents of dozens of villages by establishing an important link between the surrounding areas. It is also expected to reduce travel difficulties and support the movement of students, patients, farmers, traders and daily commuters who depend on the route for access to essential services and markets.
The Palpora road project is aimed at improving accessibility and providing safer, smoother transportation for the local population. Together, the two projects are intended to strengthen links between rural and semi-urban areas, while supporting economic activity and improving the movement of people and goods across the region.
Rather emphasised the importance of developing basic infrastructure and ensuring that residents in rural areas receive better road and communication facilities. He said improved connectivity was central to the broader development of an area and helped communities access education, healthcare, employment and commercial opportunities more efficiently.
Residents and representatives from several villages welcomed the completion of the bridge and road works. They described the projects as long-standing demands and said they would benefit a large population across the area. They also acknowledged the administration and engineering agencies involved in the execution and expressed hope that other pending development works would be taken up on priority.
