Mumbai, July 6 -- The road over-bridge connecting A.T. Road and Sripuria over LC Gate No. DD47 was inaugurated in Tinsukia on Saturday by Assam Cabinet Minister Rameshwar Teli. Built at a cost of Rs 650 million (mn), the 720 metre over-bridge will improve travel between Sripuria, Congress Colony and other areas in the south-western part of Tinsukia and the rest of the town. The project was delivered jointly with the Assam government contributing Rs 360 mn and the Railways Rs 290 mn. The structure is intended to reduce delays at the railway level crossing that previously caused frequent hold-ups for commuters.
The inaugural ceremony included the MLA of Tinsukia, Pulok Gohain; the MLA of Makum, Sanjoy Kishan; the deputy commissioner of Tinsukia, Sumit Sattawan; senior administrative officials and other dignitaries and members of the public. The presence of the guardian minister for Tinsukia underlined the state government's role in urban connectivity and local development. Officials noted that the bridge will link key residential and commercial zones, facilitating smoother movement for motorists, pedestrians and emergency services.
Local representatives stressed the importance of the new infrastructure in easing daily transportation problems for thousands of residents in Sripuria and adjacent localities. They also urged commuters to maintain the bridge and preserve its appearance and functionality for the long term. The expected reduction in congestion at the level crossing is likely to benefit public transport reliability and reduce travel time across the town during peak hours.
Administration sources indicated that the combined funding model, with a clear split between state and railways investment, may serve as a template for future local projects aiming to resolve bottlenecks at rail crossings. The opening of the over-bridge is positioned by officials as a step towards modernising urban infrastructure in Tinsukia and improving everyday mobility for residents and businesses.
